Spa-Francorchamps

Driver coaching at Spa-Francorchamps

Spa is long, fast and hilly, and the weather can be different at each end of the lap. It is the most rewarding circuit many drivers will ever visit — and the one where arriving unprepared costs the most.

Coaching is one-to-one in your own car on European trackdays and test days, with the pace built up session by session. If you do not have a suitable track car for Spa, get in contact — we can arrange a track car for the day.

The corners that decide your lap

  • La SourceA tight uphill hairpin. Traction on exit feeds the whole run down to Eau Rouge, so exit discipline is worth more than entry speed.
  • Eau Rouge and RaidillonDownhill, compressed, then blind and climbing. It is a vision and commitment exercise with a strict build-up — we never take it flat before the car and driver are ready.
  • Kemmel Straight and Les CombesThe exit of Raidillon defines your speed the whole way up Kemmel, and Les Combes is the main overtaking point, so braking accuracy matters.
  • Rivage and PouhonRivage is slow and downhill on entry; Pouhon is a fast double-apex left that rewards a patient, single line and a steady throttle.
  • Fagnes, Stavelot and BlanchimontFast and flowing, with Blanchimont taken at very high speed. Confidence here comes from references, not bravado.
  • Bus Stop chicaneHeavy braking, kerbs and a compromised exit onto the start-finish straight — the classic place to lose the lap you just built.

What we typically work on here

Escalation. We plan the day in stages so speed is added deliberately, with clear rules for the high-commitment sections. That is how you get the most out of Spa without a big moment.

Vision and references over a 7km lap. Spa asks you to hold concentration far longer than a UK short circuit, and fatigue shows up as inconsistency in the last sector.

Weather and grip reading. Conditions change across the lap, so we work on recognising grip changes and adjusting rather than driving to yesterday's plan.

Planning the trip

Book the European trackday with your organiser, then get in touch with the dates, the car and your experience so far. Travel, noise limits and licence requirements vary by event and organiser, so check those when you book.

Spa is demanding on brakes, tyres and cooling. Arrive with fresh fluid, good pads and a plan for tyre pressures — and leave enough time in the schedule for proper debriefs. If you need a car for the trip, get in contact — we can arrange a track car for the day.

Common questions

Should I take a UK instructor to a European circuit?
It removes most of the risk from an expensive trip. You arrive already knowing the references and the escalation plan, instead of spending the first two sessions guessing at a circuit that punishes guessing.
Is Spa suitable if I have only done UK trackdays?
It can be, with preparation. Spa is long, fast and weather-dependent, so we build up over the day rather than attacking Eau Rouge in the first session.
Where is Spa-Francorchamps?
The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is in the Ardennes in eastern Belgium, near Stavelot, and is an easy drive from the Channel crossings.
