Driver coaching

Driver coaching in the UK and Europe

SWR - Performance is one-to-one driver coaching run by Stephen Whiteley, an ARDS Class A instructor with over 30 years in motorsport, manufacturer driving programmes and high-performance road and track instruction.

Sessions are usually delivered in your own car, at your circuit, on trackdays, test days and race weekends. If you do not have a track car or would rather not use your own, get in contact — we have a range of track cars available to use.

How the coaching works

  • BriefWe agree what the day is for before you go out: confidence, consistency, lap time, a licence sign-off, or preparing for a race weekend.
  • In-carI sit in with you and coach live — vision, references, braking, throttle application and car placement, adjusting to the car you brought rather than a textbook line.
  • DebriefBetween sessions we review what changed, pick one or two things to work on, and go back out. Small, repeatable changes beat a long list.
  • Take-awayYou leave with a clear picture of your reference points and what to practise next time — not just a faster afternoon.

Who it is for

Complete beginners on a first trackday, road drivers moving into a faster car, drivers preparing for an ARDS test, and racers looking for consistency and race craft.

The style is safety-first, calm and clear. Nobody is pushed beyond the pace they are comfortable with, and progress is built session by session.

No track car? No problem

You do not need to own a track car to be coached. We have a range of track cars available to use — get in contact to check availability and confirm the right car, circuit and insurance arrangements.

Each guide below covers the layout, the corners that decide the lap, and what we typically work on there.

Common questions

Do I need my own car for a coaching session?
Yes — coaching is delivered in your own car on a trackday, test day or race weekend. That way everything we work on transfers straight to the car you actually drive.
Which circuits can you coach at?
Nationally: Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Thruxton, Silverstone and others. Internationally: Spa-Francorchamps, Circuit de Catalunya and Paul Ricard.
I have never been on track before. Is coaching still worth it?
It is the best time to have it. Starting with the correct references, vision and braking technique means you build speed on solid foundations instead of unlearning habits later.
