Brands Hatch

Driver coaching at Brands Hatch

Brands Hatch is a natural amphitheatre in Kent and one of the most rewarding circuits in the UK to be coached on. Steep gradients, blind crests and camber changes mean the fast line is rarely the obvious one.

Coaching is delivered in your own car on trackdays, test days and race weekends, on both the Indy circuit and the full GP loop. If you do not have a track car or would rather not use your own, get in contact — we can supply a track car for the day.

The corners that decide your lap

  • Paddock Hill BendDownhill, blind on entry and loaded as the track falls away. Most drivers brake too late and too deep. We work on getting the car settled before the crest so it can be released down the hill.
  • DruidsA slow uphill hairpin where a tidy, patient entry pays for itself all the way down Cooper Straight. Rushing the entry costs more than it gains.
  • Graham Hill BendOff-camber and easy to run wide. Vision and a later apex keep the exit clean onto the straight.
  • Surtees and Clearways / Clark CurveA long, loaded sequence on the Indy circuit. Progressive throttle and one committed line matter more than entry speed — this is the corner that sets your lap time.
  • GP loopPilgrim's Drop, Hawthorn, Westfield, Dingle Dell and Sheene Curve add high-speed, blind-crest commitment. We build these up gradually rather than attacking them cold.

What we typically work on here

Vision is the priority at Brands Hatch. Because so many entries are blind or falling away, drivers who look at the corner they are in run out of road at the exit. We move your eyes further ahead and give you fixed references you can repeat every lap.

The second focus is braking. The gradients mean brake pressure has to change through the stop — heavier where the track is flat, released where it falls away. Getting that right transforms Paddock Hill Bend and Druids.

Finally, consistency. Two clean, repeatable laps are worth far more than one lucky one, especially if you are working towards racing or a licence sign-off.

Planning the day

Book the trackday or test day with your chosen organiser, then get in touch with the date, the car and what you want out of the day. Coaching is one-to-one, so the day is built around you.

Bring the car in good mechanical order with plenty of brake and tyre life, or get in contact to ask about our track car supply if you would rather not use your own.

Most of the value comes from repeated sessions with debriefs between them, so leave time in the schedule to talk.

Common questions

Is Brands Hatch a good circuit for a first trackday?
The Indy circuit is short, well marshalled and easy to learn, which makes it a strong first venue. The gradient at Paddock Hill Bend and Paddock Hill Bend's blind entry mean it rewards being shown the references rather than working them out alone.
Do you coach on the Indy circuit or the GP loop?
Both. Indy is usually where we build the basics; the GP loop adds Pilgrim's Drop, Hawthorn, Westfield, Dingle Dell and Sheene Curve, which are faster and more committed.
Where is Brands Hatch?
Brands Hatch is at West Kingsdown in Kent, close to the M20 and M25 in South East England.
